High Range Speeding Offence, Fraser Coast

Police have suspended a man's licence after detecting the motorbike rider allegedly travelling 63km/h over the speed limit in Walligan.

During proactive patrols of Maryborough Hervey Bay Road on 19 September, officers from Maryborough Highway Patrol detected a Honda CBR600 travelling at 163km/h in 100 zone.

The rider, a 20-year-old The Palms man, was issued with a licence suspension and a traffic infringement notice (TIN) for exceed speed limit in speed zone by more than 40km/h, costing $1,919 and eight demerit points.

Inspector Shane Draper said this is a reminder of the responsibility all motorbike riders have for their own safety, this Motorcycle Awareness Month.

"Motorbike riders are one of our most vulnerable road users," Inspector Draper said.

"Though other road users can help by looking twice and giving space, motorbike riders also need to take every measure to protect themselves.

"I urge all motorcyclists to obey all road rules, especially speed limits, wear the right safety gear and stay visible."

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.

Data shows that serious crashes can be significantly reduced when drivers recognise and avoid the 'Fatal Five' behaviours: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.
