Major upgrades to the shared path connecting Hillarys Boat Harbour to North Mullaloo are now complete, providing a safer and more comfortable journey for people of all ages and abilities to walk, wheel, and ride along the coastline.
Delivered as part of the Cook Government's $6.9 million Hillarys Cycle Network Expansion project, these works have delivered significant improvements to five kilometres of shared path along Whitfords Avenue and Northshore Drive.
New and updated wayfinding and pavement markings, enhanced bike parking, and on-trip amenities were completed as part of the project, along with better connectivity to existing paths and improved safety at intersections.
Locals and visitors will now have greater access to Pinnaroo Point, Whitfords Beach, Mullaloo Beach, and surrounding parklands, allowing them to better enjoy recreational activities and engage with local businesses.
Future works include shared path upgrades along the northern corridor to connect Ocean Reef Marina to Burns Beach.
Once complete, the Hillarys Cycle Network Expansion project will provide more than 10 kilometres of new and upgraded active transport infrastructure in the area.
The WA Labor Government has invested a record amount since 2017 to deliver around 330 kilometres of shared paths and other walking and riding network connections across the State.
It is part of the Cook Government's commitment to delivering quality infrastructure for Western Australians and promoting active, healthy lifestyles.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Delivery of this coastal shared path in Hillarys is another step towards better connectivity and amenity for people walking, wheeling, and riding.
"This path provides a continuous link from the Hepburn Avenue shared path, which was completed earlier this year, through to North Mullaloo.
"It is part of our government's $6.9 million commitment to expanding the Hillarys cycle network to improve active travel connections throughout this iconic coastal destination."
As stated by Hillarys MLA Caitlin Collins:
"People in our community absolutely love being active, with so many of us enjoying a run, walk, or ride along the coast.
"Improving connections along our local shared path network is something my community is very passionate about, and this project will be key to delivering on those aspirations.
"The Cook Government is proud to have delivered these shared pathway improvements as part of our commitment to expanding Hillarys' cycling network."
