Hinterland Park Upgrade Slam Dunk Success

Sunshine Coast Council

The community is celebrating the completion of two exciting upgrades, delivered by Sunshine Coast Council - a brand new half court and a refreshed toilet block.

The projects have transformed the popular hinterland park into a more active, accessible and welcoming space for the whole community.

The upgrades, which represent a combined $480,000 investment, have delivered a modernised public amenity and a brand-new multi-use half court for basketball, netball and pickeball - all shaped by strong community input.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the park upgrades showcased Council's vision of being Australia's most sustainable region - connected, liveable, thriving.

"Whether it's a game of basketball or pickleball, a walk through the gardens, or simply enjoying the outdoors, this space now offers more ways for people of all ages and abilities to connect, move and thrive," Mayor Natoli said.

"We worked in connection with the Mapleton community and delivered upgrades that make Lilyponds Park more accessible, inclusive and active for everyone."

A park for everyone

Sunshine Coast Division 10 Councillor David Law said the improvements provided what the Mapleton community had long asked for.

"We heard the call for better accessibility and more recreational options, and we've delivered," Cr Law said.

"The new amenities are modern, inclusive and future-ready, and the half court is already proving popular with young people and families.

"This is a big win for Mapleton and a great example of how we're working together to create vibrant, inclusive spaces for everyone."

The upgraded amenity building now includes a fully compliant unisex accessible (PWD) cubicle, an ambulant unisex cubicle, a standard unisex cubicle and a new accessible pathway linking the car park to the facility.
