Bayside Council's 2025 Historical Markers Program is now open, giving residents the opportunity to nominate a site of historical significance in Bayside to be officially recognised with a plaque.
This annual program launched in 2024, gives the community the opportunity to recommend people and places of historical and cultural importance for recognition.
The first five sites to be recognised were Bexley Public School, Botany Public School, the former Sir Joseph Banks Hotel, Tempe House, and Wilson's Farmhouse.
The historical markers now installed at these sites include a brief description of the site and a QR code to provide visitors with detailed information about the site and its history.
Nominations for the 2025 Historical Marker Program will be assessed by a panel of local history and heritage specialists with the winning sites to be announced later in the year.
Mayor Edward McDougall said
"Our Historical Marker Program is helping build a strong sense of identity while creating an awareness of the historically and culturally important places in our local area," Mayor Edward McDougall said.
"I encourage everyone in our community to put forward a submission in the latest round of this program that recognises our rich, cultural history."
