Hit-run driver arrested Enfield, South Australia

A man has been arrested after crashing a car and hiding under a house at Enfield yesterday evening.

Police and emergency services were called to a crash on Fitzgerald Avenue about 7.15pm on Monday 17 December.

Police will allege a man driving a grey Ford Ranger Utility south on Main North Road side swiped a Mitsubishi Utility causing damage to the car.

The driver of the Mitsubishi stopped his vehicle however the driver of the Ford sped away from the scene, he failed to navigate the corner and crashed into a tree.

The driver was seen running from the crash and headed west towards Main North Road. The driver was followed by the victim of the crash onto Audrey Avenue attempting to stop him. The fleeing man allegedly assaulted the victim and continued to run.

He was followed to a house on Trigg Street where he hid under a house. Police and emergency services attended the scene and removed the man from under the house.

Police arrested a 26-year-old man from no fixed address. He was conveyed by ambulance crews to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

The man was charged with driving without due care, driving without a licence, failing to stop at a crash and assault. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrate Court today.
