Hitting ground running

CEO of the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Office Graham Fraine with Mayor Paul Antonio and Deputy Mayor Geoff McDonald at Clive Berghofer Stadium

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Mayor Paul Antonio has advanced discussions with senior officials around the opportunities that could arise from the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Earlier today Mayor Antonio took Graham Fraine, the CEO of the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Office, to a number of locations to discuss what infrastructure could be used for the 2032 Games.

"This is about putting our best case forward," Mayor Antonio said.

"We already know how great the Toowoomba Region is, so now is the time to show the organising committees how much potential there is to make sure we're a big part of this once in a lifetime event.

"As part of the visit, we looked at the Clive Berghofer Stadium, which has been earmarked for preliminary football matches, as well as the Wellcamp Airport.

"In addition to this, we had a briefing from the Royal Agriculture Society of Queensland about the possibility of the Toowoomba Showgrounds becoming an Equestrian Centre of Excellence.

"If this was to progress, we would be well-positioned to host world-class events and to be a second Animal Quarantine Centre in Australia.

"These are valuable discussions and in partnership with the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, we will continue to meet and advocate on behalf of our Region to get the best possible deal we can for our community."
