Participants of the Eastern District Office's "E-League" programme gathered before the exterior of the Main Building, a declared monument reflecting over a century of HKU heritage.
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) welcomed approximately 30 participants, youth affairs advisors, and programme alumni from the "E-League" 2026-2027 programme on July 23, 2026. At the invitation of the Eastern District Office, HKU arranged a visit featuring a campus guided tour and sharing sessions on admissions and campus life. The event aimed to inspire the future young leaders to proactively plan their future and achieve their academic aspirations.
Exploring Heritage over a Century
HKU's development is deeply intertwined with the fabric of Hong Kong. Guided by student ambassadors, the youths toured HKU's historic monuments, including the Main Building and the Fung Ping Shan Building. The itinerary also covered modern facilities including the Centennial Campus, a guided tour of the Lui Che Woo Law Library on HKU law education, and the HKU History Gallery, which opened in 2025. Through iconic artefacts and interactive exhibits, the students gained a profound understanding of HKU's 115-year heritage and its vision for future development.
Representatives from the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) detailed HKU's holistic student support services from career planning, leadership training to its unique hall education, inspiring youths to discover their personal strengths and cultivate time management skills. Meanwhile, the Admissions Office introduced HKU's innovative academic programmes and flexible study pathways, encouraging students to prepare for their academic journeys early. Three Student Career Ambassadors shared their experiences in overseas exchanges, internships, and event organisation, illustrating HKU's diverse learning opportunities.
Empowering Dreams with Practical Advice
A participant in the 12th "E-League" programme, SZE Ching Nam, Oscar, remarked: "The historic architecture, top-tier professors and students from all over the world, and various extracurricular activities deeply attracted me, giving me a stronger desire and goal to study hard and apply to HKU."
Another participant, LI Min Pei, Anna, noted that the ambassadors' sharing provided a deeper perspective: "I no longer just saw majestic buildings, but gained a true and multifaceted understanding of HKU."
Mr WANG Feng, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at HKU, reaffirmed the University's dedication to connecting with the community and nurturing youth leaders. He expressed hope that this event would inspire the young minds to plan their future ahead and seize their opportunities. Moving forward, HKU will continue to foster community connections and align with the vision of the HKSAR Government's "Youth Development Blueprint".
Organised by the Eastern District Office, the "E-League" programme has been selecting outstanding students from secondary schools in the Eastern District to participate in multifaceted activities since 2014. The programme aims to nurture participants in the spirit of "Promoting Self-reliance, Steeling Oneself, and Contributing to the Community", thereby empowering them to contribute to Hong Kong and the Nation.
