The Institute for Climate and Carbon Neutrality (ICCN) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will host Hong Kong Climate Week (HKCW) 2026 from 26 March to 1 April 2026, bringing together policymakers, business leaders, and innovators to drive the transition from climate commitments to tangible solutions. The event will open with a keynote address by Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, reinforcing Hong Kong's sustained leadership in advancing the global climate agenda.
Under the theme "From Mitigation to Adaptation: Bridging Global Consensus and Local Implementation," HKCW 2026 will highlight the city's unique role in bridging global climate consensus with local implementation. As an international financial centre and a vital gateway linking Chinese Mainland with the world, Hong Kong is translating climate commitments into tangible actions across multiple dimensions, including green finance, innovation transformation, and implementation mechanisms:
- Financial Channels: Guiding international capital through an expanding green bond market and aligning with international sustainable disclosure standards to channel funds toward low-carbon projects;
- Technology Hub: Facilitating global market access for cutting-edge climate technologies from the Chinese Mainland while piloting community adaptation projects to embed innovative solutions in real-world contexts;
- Policy-Practice Alignment: Leveraging institutional and geographical strengths to accelerate the localised implementation and promotion of the global climate agenda across Asia.
A Dual-Track Approach to Climate Action
This year's HKCW will feature a Main Stage programme for high-level discussions among senior policymakers, investors, and global experts, alongside city-wide Side Events that engage communities, cultural institutions, and innovation hubs. This structure ensures that climate dialogue translates into inclusive, on-the-ground action.
"Hong Kong Climate Week is where ambition meets implementation. By connecting global expertise with local action, we can scale solutions that are not just relevant for Asia, but replicable worldwide," said Professor Gong Peng, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development) of HKU.
