Navy's lead ship for the latest regional presence deployment has returned to Fleet Base East, capping a successful three and a half months away.
Guided missile destroyer HMAS Hobart and about 230 officers and sailors returned to the ship's home port on December 16 - just in time for the holiday season.
Able Seaman Electronics Technician William Zegenhagen said the port visits were a major drawcard of the deployment.
"Getting to see so many countries and step ashore in each was good compared to a previous deployment that took place during the pandemic," Able Seaman Zegenhagen said.
"It's good to be back to see family and get some respite after a successful deployment."
Meeting counterparts from foreign navies on her first deployment was a highlight for Able Seaman Aviation Technician Aircraft Madison Jolliffe.
"We cross-decked with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and Philippine Navy," Able Seaman Jolliffe said.
"Having the opportunity to lash down their aircraft and meet their people doing the same roles was great."
Commanding Officer Hobart Commander Andrew Pepper acknowledged the success of the deployment and the hard work of the sailors aboard Hobart and within the larger task group.
"We've taken more than 400 young Australians in our task group overseas to work with over 15 nations. They've had a fantastic time exploring and we've represented our Defence Force really well," Commander Pepper said.
"It's always an exciting time coming home, but especially coming home at Christmas.
"There's nothing better than knowing you're going back to an Australian summer and you're going to see your family and friends."
