Sadly a man in his 70s from Sandy Bay has died as a result of a boating incident near the Regatta Grounds in Hobart this afternoon.
Around 1.10pm, a man was observed to be in distress in the water beside a kayak.
The man was retrieved from the water and provided medical treatment. Sadly he died at the scene.
Anyone who saw the man in the water around 1pm is asked to call police on 131 444.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
