Today, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, met with Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche, at the G7 Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting in Toronto, Ontario.
The meeting follows the successful mission to Germany led by Prime Minister Carney and Minister Hodgson in August 2025, where Canada and Germany issued a Joint Declaration of Intent on Critical Minerals Cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Hodgson and Minister Reiche emphasized the importance of bolstering energy security and advancing the two countries' shared commitment to the clean energy transition.
They discussed strengthening bilateral collaboration on critical minerals, specifically by building on the progress of the Critical Minerals Action Plan and maintain momentum on the Critical Minerals Production Alliance, underscoring the importance of working together to build a secure global critical minerals supply chain, with a focus on actions that will operationalize projects in the short term.
They also explored opportunities to connect Canadian LNG exporters with German industry, addressing the strategic importance of LNG trade diversification amid an evolving energy market, as well as opportunities to build connections on carbon capture use, and storage (CCUS).
They agreed to enhance engagement with mining, energy, and CCUS industry stakeholders to create strategic opportunities for their respective industries.
The two ministers also exchanged views on advancing clean energy policy, including for hydrogen and biofuels, to advance the clean energy economy, and to create a transatlantic green energy trade corridor.
This meeting marks another step forward in an ongoing effort to expand economic cooperation between Canada and Germany, further strengthening the foundation for future partnerships and shared prosperity.
