Hokkaido University traces its origins to Sapporo Agricultural College, which was founded with the appointment of Dr. William Smith Clark from the Massachusetts Agricultural College, now the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst), as its Vice Principal. Even after 150 years, the relationship between the two universities continues to thrive.
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Hokkaido University, Hokkaido University and UMass Amherst jointly produced a video reflecting on the shared history of the two institutions. The video premiered at the 150th Anniversary Ceremony held on September 26 and is now available on YouTube so that it can be enjoyed by a wider audience for years to come.
