Music lovers will be spoilt for choice when 20 homegrown musicians and live acts come together over one jam packed weekend for the Region's Live & Local Micro Festival.
Part of Toowoomba Regional Council's (TRC) Live and Local Strategic Initiative, the micro festival will showcase local artists across 17 traditional and non-traditional live music and business venues on the 13 and 14 November 2021.
Designed to support councils and their communities in delivering live music micro festivals, theLive & Local Strategic Initiativebrings together musicians from across the Toowoomba Region for a series of workshops and performances.
TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O'Shea said Live & Local is an opportunity to grow the local industry.
"By connecting musicians with a range of venues we can provide a platform for local bands and solo artists to showcase their talent to a broader audience more often," Cr O'Shea said.
"Many local music lovers already know and love the work of these artists but we're are keen for even more people to discover the talent that's in their own back yard.
"You can expect to see pop-up gigs in and around Toowoomba over two full days with a diverse and vibrant program of the Region's emerging and established music acts.
"Singer-songwriter Maggie Elysse will be performing at Kwong Sang Walk and Carnival Lane or you can tune into local blues band Maplewood at the Walton Store. There will also be live music at Queens Park, Picnic Point and Highfields Pool."
Cr O'Shea said live music contributes to the Region's Arts scene and is an integral part of the Region's economy.
"Live music promotes spaces for creative growth and communities to come together," he said.
"By providing these opportunities and skills development to wider range within our arts sector, we are creating a space for the music industry to thrive within our Region.
"The line-up will have something for everyone so I would encourage the community to check out the full program online to come out and support out home-grown talent by getting behind the micro festival."
The Toowoomba Region's Live & Local initiative has been driven by local emerging curators, Jamie Galley and Andrew Johnson to bring together the Region's musicians, businesses and the community.
All Live & Local Micro-Festival events are family friendly and free. Bookings are not required but venue capacity is limited so arrive early so not to miss out.
The festival will a kick off with an open-mic style event at the Bodega Bar on Thursday, 11 November from 5pm.
