Homicide Probe Launched in Glen Innes

A homicide investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Glen Innes this afternoon.

Acting Detective Inspector Craig Bolton, Auckland City CIB, says Police were called to Sunnymead Road at around 2.45pm after reports a person had been critically injured.

"Police quickly attended and sadly, despite best efforts by emergency services, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"One person was swiftly taken into custody and is assisting Police with enquiries."

A scene guard has been established and cordons are in place. There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.

"Police recognise the impact an incident of this nature has on the community, and we want to reassure residents that support is being provided to the family of the deceased and those in the wider community.

"Staff will also be conducting reassurance patrols in the coming days," Acting Inspector Bolton says.

Residents can expect to see an increased Police presence in the area while the investigation continues.
