More than 360 Johns Hopkins University and Medicine staff, students, faculty, and family members visited five museums in four cities for free on Saturday, Feb. 14, thanks to a newly expanded version of the popular annual Hopkins Day at the Museum event.
Hopkins multiplied its museum partnerships for 2026 based on the multiyear success of Hopkins Day at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, which began in 2017. This year, the offerings included the Lewis Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Irene and Richard Frary Gallery at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center in Washington, where the current exhibition, Ceremony, features new works by Lindsay Adams alongside objects from the Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries, exploring themes of Black movement, migration, and world-building.
Hopkins affiliates in Florida visited the Glazer Children's Museum in Tampa and the Great Explorations Children's Museum in St. Petersburg.
Saturday's guests at the BMA received in-demand access to Amy Sherald: American Sublime exhibition, which encapsulates Sherald's work from 2007 to the present through 38 larger-than-life portraits of Black Americans in everyday moments, many of which were painted in Baltimore and feature Baltimore-based models.
"Expanding Hopkins Day to lift up and promote the rich cultural destinations and opportunities across Baltimore and in D.C. has been a long-standing goal for us," said Maria Harris Tildon, Johns Hopkins University and Medicine's vice president for Government, Community, and Economic Partnerships. "Celebrating Hopkins Day at our own Frary Gallery at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center and at the Baltimore Museum of Art—and making tickets available to Amy Sherald: American Sublime—made this year especially meaningful, as her work offers a striking and contemporary perspective on American portraiture."
