Victoria Police warned Easter weekend road users we would be out in force and a Melbourne motorcycle rider found out the hard way yesterday.
Officers from the State Highway Patrol Solo Unit couldn't believe their eyes when a Yamaha 150cc scooter motorcycle flew past their own marked police motorcycles on Flemington Road travelling on its rear wheel.
The scooter was promptly ordered to pull over and checks revealed not only was the male rider's licence disqualified, but he had his motorcycle impounded for similar behaviour only two months prior.
The vehicle was impounded and the rider got to see his motorcycle being towed away…again.
The rider, a 23-year-old French National, will have to pay an impound fee of $1,000 if he wishes to see his motorcycle again.
He is expected to be charged on summons for driving offences.
Officers from the State Highway Patrol Solo Unit also conducted a PBT site on Boardwalk Boulevard in the Wyndham area on Easter Sunday.
Although police were impressed that no drug or alcohol impaired drivers drove through the site, officers were dismayed that a car pulled in with a mother and infant not wearing seat belts correctly.
Operation Nexus is a statewide road policing operation conducted over the Easter long weekend.
Police will be highly visible and enforcing on Victorian roads in an effort to reduce road trauma, targeting speed, impaired driving, fatigue and distraction offences.
Operation Nexus commenced on Thursday 2 April and runs until 11:59pm this evening.
