  • Today marks the official opening of Horizon Power's first regional customer experience centre in Broome.

Located at 8 Short Street, the new $1.5 million facility will service local customers and also be a call centre for all Horizon Power customers.

It has been named Nila Janyba, in consultation with the local Nyamba Buru Yawuru organisation, which means 'knowledge sharing' in Yawuru language.

The centre, relocated from Melbourne, has created 10 jobs and two traineeship positions.

As part of the WA Recovery Plan, Horizon Power was awarded $57 million to deliver energy infrastructure projects, including more than $25 million to projects in the Kimberley.

As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:

"The opening of Horizon Power's first customer experience centre and relocating its call centre from Melbourne to Broome reflects the McGowan Government's commitment to investing in the regions and creating local jobs.

"This is just one of many initiatives being delivered as part of the WA Recovery Plan, which aims to create jobs and build a greener, cleaner future for our regional communities."

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:

"Nila Janyba is one of the first Kimberley projects to be completed as part of the WA Recovery Plan.

"It's great to see local contractors and businesses were engaged to deliver the new centre, ensuring that the community benefits from this investment by the McGowan Government.

"The centre will also employ Broome locals to help other locals."
