Horsham to host three-on-three basketball tournament

Horsham Rural City Council has teamed up with a leading national basketball promoter to attract an exciting three-on-three competition to the Wimmera next month.

HRCC has engaged Champions League Basketball (CLB3X3) to bring its outdoor 3x3 set up to Horsham with a three-day event from Friday 17 February.

The tournament will feature pre-registered games as well as three-point shoot outs, slam dunk contests and free come and try sessions.

It will be held at the Park Drive netball courts and Horsham Hornets will help run the tournament.

Three-on-three basketball appeared as an Olympic discipline at 2021's Tokyo Olympics.

"3X3 is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere and by anyone. All you need is a hoop, a half-court and six players," General Manager of Champions League Basketball Matt Hollard said.

"The event weekend provides a terrific chance to register with a few mates and give the sport a try for the very first time," he said.

Mayor Robyn Gulline said it was exciting to welcome three-on-three basketball to the region.

"This is a great opportunity for our community to participate and enjoy this growing and exciting form of basketball," Cr Gulline said.

"CLB3X3 have come up with a fantastic format that makes basketball accessible to such a broad range of people, as well as providing a great atmosphere for spectators to enjoy.

"I would encourage everyone while they're here to take some time between matches to check out our beautiful river and our great cafes and restaurants. Good luck to all competitors," she said.

Players can register to compete for prizes in the junior and open divisions. Entry costs $120 per team for the juniors and $150 per side for the open competition.
