All the Shining Lights is a story based on the emergency landing of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines DC-2 'UIVER' , Albury Racecourse 1934.
Set to light up the Butter Factory Theatre stage this November, All the Shining Lights is about passing on the legacy of this incredible local story to the next generation. Inspired by ABC iview's production Old People's Home for 4 year olds / Teenagers, the work connects a plucky 10 year old girl with a cantankerous nursing home resident and together they form an unlikely friendship. A storyteller guides us through the whole journey, toward the Great Uiver Rescue of 1934.
It is a beautifully moving, funny and heartwarming story for parents, grandparents and young people to experience together. It is performed by local legend John Walker in the role of Dutch Immigrant John, supported by Albury's own Rachel McNamara as the storyteller; and introducing 11-year old Albury local, Ruby Davis, in her professional debut as Charli at HotHouse Theatre.
All the Shining Lights was three years in the making, beginning as a Celsius development project in 2019 before being quickly commissioned by HotHouse Theatre to be developed for the main stage. Inspired by interviews with Uiver historian Noel Jackling, local historian Bruce Pennay, Uiver Memorial Trust members and the late Patricia Strachan the story of All the Shining Lights was born. The initial idea of creating a work around the Uiver came from Corowa local Carm Hogan, who approached multi-award winning Yackandandah playwright, Brendan Hogan (Martin Lysicrates Prize winner 2018, 2019 and finalist in 2022 - announced 8 Nov) to collaborate. Connecting with HotHouse Artistic Director, Karla Conway as dramaturg the three then dove in, over the pandemic to deeply develop the work.
