A man is undergoing assessment in hospital following a house fire in West Ryde this morning, NSW Police say.
Just before 10am today, emergency services were called to a home on Victoria Road, after reports it was on fire.
A man was seen by witnesses running from the home into a detached garage at the back of the premises.
The fire was extinguished; however, the inside of the premises was significantly damaged.
Officers from Ryde Local Area Command, with assistance from the Public Order Riot Squad, forced entry to the garage and arrested the 41-year-old man.
He has been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for assessment.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are urged to contact Ryde Police via Crime Stoppers.
