Housing Boost For Mallee Health And Education

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is pushing on with the delivery of much-needed worker accommodation for key industries across the Mallee, with a new housing project now underway in Robinvale.

Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes today announced the start of works on 10 houses which will be built on an under-utilised block of land, backed by investment from the Labor Government's Regional Worker Accommodation Fund.

The funding will help transform the site into a vibrant community asset and satisfy a need for local health and education workers, attracting professionals for Robinvale District Health Services and Robinvale College, which provides education to more than 200 students.

In a further boost for the local economy the two and three-bedroom houses will be built by locally based Mildura Homes and involve local suppliers and more than 60 tradespeople from across the region.

Swan Hill Rural City Council will lead the delivery of the project, which is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

This project follows others across the north-west funded through the Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, including at Irymple, Kerang, Kyabram and throughout the Buloke Shire.

The Regional Worker Accommodation Fund is part of a record $47 billion invested by the Victorian Government in just over a decade towards projects that are making regional cities and towns even better places to live, work, visit, invest and learn.

As stated by Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes:

"Education and healthcare are critical to the liveability and economic prosperity of regional communities, which is why we're investing in projects like this."

"By boosting the supply of accommodation for workers in key industries, we're investing in the future of Robinvale."

As stated by Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Cr Stuart King:

"Swan Hill Rural City Council is proud to be delivering 10 modern two and three-bedroom dwellings that will be leased under a five-year agreement to key workers."

"This project directly addresses the urgent need for additional beds in Robinvale and will play a vital role in supporting the recruitment and retention of essential workers - particularly across the health and education sectors."
