The Hume Empowering Communities Action Group is pleased to announce the successful projects for the Youth-led Grant (Round 2, Stream 2) of the Hume Empowering Communities initiative funded through the Victorian Government's Building Safer Communities Program.
The Hume Empowering Communities Assessment Panel received a number of grant applications from youth groups and young individuals to drive, plan and deliver projects in Hume for young people aged between 8-24 years, auspice by an organisation. Total funding of $43,230 has been administered across six Hume-based projects.
We are pleased to announce the following successful funded projects:
- Hassan Short Film Project – led by Ahmad Yousuf, auspiced by Australian Multicultural Community Centre. Ahmad will be producing a compelling short film titled "Hassan" which aims to raise awareness of peer pressure and the consequences of criminal behaviour.
- The Headstrong Podcast – led by Headspace Youth Advocacy Group (YAG), auspiced by Orygen. This project that will provide a platform for young voices to discuss mental health, well-being, support services, and marginalised groups. It aims to combat isolation and validate young people's experiences.
- Raising Community Awareness and Educate End Users about Cybercrime and its Prevention project – led by Leano Pheto, auspiced by Australian Multicultural Community Centre. This project will deliver a vital cyber security awareness event aimed at improving young people's ability to prevent and respond to cyber safety incidents.
- The Building Bridges Program – led and auspiced by Victorian Afghan Youth Association. This project that aims to address challenges faced by Afghan youth and offers support, opportunities, and a safe space for Afghan youth to thrive, ultimately working towards a more inclusive, harmonious, and empowered community in Hume.
- Pasefika Youth Day Project – led by Glenroy EFKS Youth Group, auspiced by Engage Pasifika. This initiative will aim to strengthen social and cultural connections amongst young Pasifika people.
- All Saints Safety Day – T-shirt design competition project – led by All Saints Teen Club, auspiced by All Saints. This is a local youth basketball team who will organise a community art competition that will promote positive thinking and perceptions of safety in the community.
Each of these initiatives will play a significant role in enhancing the lives of young people in the Hume community and addressing local issues that impact perceptions of safety and crime prevention.
