The Allan Labor Government is giving more Victorian children the best start in life - creating hundreds of new kindergarten places on or near school sites to make early learning accessible and save families money.
Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn today announced up to 534 additional kindergarten places are being created in 2028 across four projects.
New kindergartens will open on or next to Coburg North Primary School, Mickleham Primary School, Wiyal Primary School (Frasers Rise) and Yarram Primary School.
Every new Victorian primary school opened since 2021 has a kindergarten on-site or next door, making sure Victorian children can start learning close to home.
More than 145,000 children and their families are saving up to $2,600 per child each year through the Labor Government's Free Kinder program, available at 97 per cent of kinder programs across the state.
The Labor Government's $14 billion Best Start, Best Life reforms are transforming early childhood education - helping children thrive, easing cost-of-living pressures and supporting parents and carers to return to work or study if they choose.
We're also investing billions to build and expand hundreds of kindergartens across Victoria, supporting the delivery of 15 hours of three-year-old kindergarten each week by 2029 and up to 30 hours of Pre-Prep each week by 2036.
As stated by Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn
"This is about investing in children, families and communities - because every Victorian child deserves the best start to life."
"Building new kinders where families need them most, close to schools, homes and in communities right across Victoria, is vital in our growing state."
"Through Free Kinder we're backing families with real cost-of-living relief - saving families thousands of dollars each year per child."
