Emergency services volunteers throughout Western Australia now have access to more life-saving equipment with the distribution of 828 Automated External Defibrillators to bush fire brigades and State Emergency Service units.
The new devices, which have been funded with $1.4 million from the Emergency Services Levy, have been fitted to fire appliances, and SES utility vehicles and flood boats.
The portable AED devices are simple to use and can save someone's life during a cardiac arrest. Volunteers have been trained in how to use them.
Local governments assisted with the rollout of the devices to their bush fire brigades and SES units.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services brigades, groups and units also carry AED devices.
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:
"By providing our State's bush fire brigades and SES units with these Automated External Defibrillator devices, we are increasing the level of emergency support available for our communities.
"These devices, which have been funded by $1.4 million from the ESL, could save the life of someone who is involved in an emergency event or even a volunteer themselves who find themselves in trouble during a stressful situation.
"I would like to thank the various local governments that have assisted with the rollout of these devices to their bush fire brigades and SES units."
