The Allan Labor Government is teeing up close to one thousand new homes on a former golf course in Melbourne's south-east.
Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny today announced the approval of a development plan for the former Kingswood Golf Course in Dingley Village - which is set to be built in stages over the coming decade.
The development plan carefully sets out where approximately 941 homes across 15 stages can be built, along with the key infrastructure including roads, cycling connections and public open space required to cater for this growing new community.
Delivering the project in planned stages will ensure new residents are connected to key infrastructure and seamlessly integrated with surrounding communities.
Backed by extensive community consultation with locals, Kingston Council and relevant agencies, the development plan sets out key environmental protections to preserve the area, with hundreds of trees to be retained and thousands of new trees to be planted - creating a comfortable place to live for future residents.
The Development Plan also incorporates recommendations made by Kingston Council, including the management of trees, subdivisions and the staging of infrastructure to support the new homes.
The project will deliver at least 10 per cent affordable housing, with 20 per cent of the site dedicated to green open space - creating almost 10 hectares of new parks, playgrounds and trails for residents to enjoy.
The developer of the project, Satterley Property Group, also intends to deliver a new sporting and community centre - giving access to recreational activities for locals.
Victoria continues to lead the nation in housing approvals and completions and through our Train and Tram Zone program, updates to the Townhouse Code, setting housing targets for every local government area, and slashing stamp duty for eligible off-the-plan developments - we're delivering more homes for more Victorians.
As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny
"We're unlocking underutilised land to deliver more homes and create new opportunities for people in Melbourne's south-east."
"The only way to make housing fairer for young Victorians is to build more homes faster - this is exactly why we've been overhauling our planning system because the status quo is not an option."
