Huntley Road Upgrade Boosts Access to Key Services

Orange Council

Works will commence in August on an upgrade of Huntley Road, recognising the route as an important link to the Orange Heath Service, the Orange Regional Airport, Sir Jack Brabham Oval and the emerging Orange Regional Sports Precinct.

♦ In short: Works to upgrade Huntley Road will begin in August, including upgrades to the intersection at Ash Street.

♦ The Ash Street rail crossing will be closed while the work is undertaken. Huntley Road will remain open during the works.

♦ What's next: The work is expected to take up to 6 months subject to weather.

The project includes the rehabilitation and widening of the road from the rear entrance of the Orange Health Service to just north of the Ash Street rail crossing, upgrades to the intersection at Ash Street, footpath and sealed parking areas, kerb and guttering and stormwater management.

This upgrade is a component of the $59.5 million Orange Regional Sports Precinct project, announced by the NSW Government in February 2025.

In addition to state funding, the project has secured $1.6 million through Round 3 of the NSW Government's Fixing Local Roads Program, specifically to support road rehabilitation and widening.

The Australian Government has also committed $15 million to the Orange Regional Sports Precinct through its Growing Regions Program.

The work is expected to take up to 6 months subject to weather.

As part of the project the Ash Street rail crossing will be closed while work is undertaken. Access to the Leewood Industrial Estate will be through Elsham Avenue. Huntley Road will remain open during the works.

Orange City Council Infrastructure Policy Committee Chair Cr Jeff Whitton said the Huntley Road was an important link to health, sporting, and transport services as well as Spring Hill and surrounding rural areas.

"This is a critical route for a lot of reasons and its great news the NSW Government is on board supporting this upgrade. As a growing city we need to make sure we are keeping pace with that growth and upgrade transport linkages are a key component of meeting community needs," Cr Whitton said.

"There will be some traffic disruptions during the works, and we've written to more than 400 residents and businesses from Leewood to Spring Hill letting them know about the project. The end product will be worth the wait."

Minister for Roads and Regional Transport Jenny Aitchison said this program greatly benefits communities in NSW.

"No matter where you live, everyone deserves safe and reliable roads to access education, employment and essential services.

"The Minns Labor Government is supporting our regional communities by facilitating safer, more connected journeys for locals, visitors and workers.

"More than 570 projects have been funded across the state through Fixing Local Roads so far, and this Huntley Road upgrade in Orange is a great example of how this program greatly benefits our communities.

"There may be some disruption, so I want to thank the community for their patience and understanding as we carry out these critical improvements."
