Hurstville Museum Debuts New Georges River Reflections

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is excited to welcome the community into the refreshed permanent exhibition, Georges River Reflections at Hurstville Museum & Gallery.

The exhibition tells the story of the region's diverse history and changing communities, with a focus on truth telling and the lived experiences of local Aboriginal and multicultural communities.

Community voices were central to shaping the exhibition, with consultations held with local residents and collaboration with Council's Advisory Committees, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee. An Aboriginal consultant was engaged to provide guidance to ensure First Nations perspectives were represented respectfully and accurately.

On Saturday 31 January 2026, Council is celebrating the opening of Georges River Reflections.

The Open Day will begin with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. Explore the exhibition and enjoy a day of hands-on fun for all ages. Highlights include live animal encounters with Raptor Reptiles and a creative workshop led by Kamilaroi artist Amy Lea Hill-Trindall. Visitors can also grab a coffee and discover new interactive elements throughout the exhibitions.

Visitors can also enjoy Petrina Hicks' photography exhibition Snakes and Mirrors and Bryan Mew's Dragon's Lair Gallery exhibition, featuring work by the Chinese-Australian, Kingsgrove-based artist.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "The refreshed permanent exhibition at Hurstville Museum & Gallery is a wonderful way for our community to connect with the rich stories, art and history of our region.

"We are proud to celebrate the Aboriginal and multicultural communities who have shaped the vibrant and diverse identity of Georges River.
