HydroSOS Guide Released for RA VI Members

A simplified HydroSOS Implementation Plan for RA VI - a Quick Reference Guide (available online) has been developed by the RA VI Task Team on HydroSOS with support from the WMO Secretariat to assist National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and regional partners in implementing harmonized hydrological status and outlook services.

Members are encouraged to use the guide as a reference to support national-level implementation of HydroSOS activities.

The Quick Reference Guide provides a structured operational framework for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and regional partners to support the delivery of harmonized hydrological status and outlook products under HydroSOS.

It defines roles across global, regional, and national levels, and outlines priority implementation areas including data exchange, modelling, service delivery, and capacity development. The guide also identifies key hydrological variables and indicators underpinning HydroSOS products, such as streamflow, soil moisture, groundwater, snow water equivalent, reservoir storage, and precipitation.

In addition, the document includes an Executive Brief for decision-makers to support strategic alignment and resource planning, as well as a Technical Checklist designed to assist NMHSs in assessing readiness and tracking implementation progress.

To support the Team in achieving its mandate, the Secretariat facilitates the implementation process through this guide as a practical reference tool for Members.
