The International Criminal Court (ICC) takes note of the decision adopted by the Special Session of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) on 24 July 2026 to remove the Prosecutor from office, having found that he has committed serious misconduct and serious breach of duty, as reflected in the ASP's press release on the same day. The Court calls for the respect of the privacy and rights of all those involved in this process.
The Deputy Prosecutors will continue to provide the leadership, management and direction of the Office of the Prosecutor, as they have done since Mr Khan took a leave of absence in May 2025 and following his suspension from duty on 8 June 2026.
Throughout this process, the Court has continued to carry out its mandate and activities, thanks to the professionalism and dedication of staff members.
The Court will continue to attach the utmost importance to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment for all personnel.
The ICC remains firmly committed to advancing accountability and delivering justice for victims of crimes that deeply shock the conscience of humanity.
