Police in the St Kilda area caught two friends drink driving in Melbourne's southern suburbs yesterday morning.
St Kilda police were patrolling Grey Street when they observed a Hilux ute with expired registration about 1.40am.
The ute was intercepted with two male occupants and the driver returned a positive preliminary breath test.
The driver was taken to the St Kilda Police Station and underwent an evidentiary breath test with a result of .139.
The 26-year-old Werribee man's car was impounded at a cost of $890 and his licence was immediately suspended for a period of 12 months.
He was released pending summons to attend a court at a later date.
The male passenger left the original scene and collected his own Hilux ute before attending the St Kilda Police Station to pick up his friend.
They then drove to Williamstown Road, Port Melbourne, where the second driver lost control and hit a sign and two parked vehicles.
The driver returned a positive preliminary breath test and admitted to using a drug of dependence and was taken to St Kilda Police Station.
He underwent an evidentiary breath test with a result of .114 and his licence was also immediately suspended for a period of 12 months.
The 19-year-old Port Melbourne man was released pending summons to attend a court at a later date.
The original driver left the crash scene prior to police arrival.
