Kiama Council

Kiama Council is taking steps to keep our roads safe. A 9-tonne gross load limit will soon apply to the western section of Free Selectors Road, west of the intersection with Foxground Road. This follows a recent landslide that left a steep embankment below the road.

What does this mean for you?

  • The new load limit applies to all vehicles, even those heading to properties along the affected section.
  • To make sure services continue, Council's waste collection will switch to a smaller truck that meets the limit.

Why is this happening?

The landslide was caused by stormwater overflowing from a blocked drain and culvert. Council has fixed the drainage to prevent future issues, and engineers say the road should stay stable as long as the load limit is observed.

What's next?

  • Signs will go up in early January 2026.
  • Council is working on a design and funding submission under the Natural Disaster Recovery Funding Program to repair the damaged road edge.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep everyone safe.
