- $10.6 million facilities at Scarborough Primary School officially opened
- Includes nature-based play space and update to universal access across the site
- Project part of $1.5 billion school infrastructure program to deliver new and modern public schools
The Cook Labor Government has officially opened state-of-the-art new learning spaces at Scarborough Primary School.
The $10.6 million redevelopment includes a new roof to existing buildings and construction of a two-storey teaching block.
The two-storey teaching block includes three kindergarten and pre-primary classrooms and five general learning area classrooms as well as toilets, storerooms and staff areas.
A fenced kindergarten and pre-primary outdoor play area has also been added to the facilities. Additional parking for staff, visitors and parents will be completed in the coming months.
The school currently has almost 300 students and the redevelopment will increase student capacity to 366.
The facilities were designed by SITE Architecture Studio Pty Ltd and built by Devlyn Construction.
The project is part of the Cook Labor Government's $1.5 billion school infrastructure program to deliver new and modern public schools across Western Australia.
As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:
"We want to ensure all students in Western Australia have access to the best learning facilities.
"Scarborough Primary is a fantastic school and what we are unveiling today will add to the terrific public school offering for Scarborough families.
"It is so important our schools are accessible to everyone. The provision of universal access across the site has been upgraded through the supply of a lift in the new building, new pathways, and a ramp to the school's existing heritage building."
As stated by Scarborough MLA Stuart Aubrey:
"I am so proud to see this incredible upgrade delivered for the Scarborough community.
"I have worked closely with locals to ensure that we are delivering what families need from their school and this is evident in what is being unveiled today.
"The spectacular eight classroom, two-storey teaching block is complemented by a nature-based play space and a bike track to encourage creativity and a safe, active lifestyle in the students - all of which are a priority for the school community."
