The Government of Canada invests in cultural spaces to make them accessible to all Canadians. To do this, it supports the construction and renovation of arts and heritage facilities.
The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, today announced $150,000 in funding for Rivière-du-Loup en spectacles for the renovation of the Salle Alphonse-Desjardins at the Berger Cultural Centre.
This support, provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will allow the organization to update equipment, improving workplace safety for technicians and enriching the experience of artists performing there.

In this way, they can deliver performances that live up to their talents. Rivière-du-Loup en spectacles presents and promotes all of the performing arts disciplines for all audiences in eastern Quebec. It manages the performance venues in the Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup and the Maison de la culture and contributes to local entertainment by presenting cultural events.

The Salle Alphonse‑Desjardins at the Berger Cultural Centre, built in 1967, is the main performing arts venue in Rivière‑du‑Loup and the largest hall in eastern Quebec. Its programming consists of shows from various disciplines, including dance, theatre, music, song, circus and multimedia.

The renovation project includes upgrading the safety precautions in the performance hall by installing panic bars on the access doors and securing walkways by adding safety nets under the boom access area. It also involves replacing defective technical equipment, including light dimmers and the electrical wiring of the booms; and repairing worn items at the Berger Cultural Centre, including the stage flooring, the paint on the ceiling in the performance hall and the plumbing system in the dressing room.
