Improving facilities at Highfield Historic Site

Joan Rylah,Liberal Member for Braddon

Highfield Historic Site is one of the North West's unique function spaces and the heritage barn area is being redeveloped to create an even better visitor experience.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to ensuring every region benefits from a strong visitor economy.

Highfield currently hosts around 30 functions per year, including weddings, a cooking school, the very popular bi-annual Garden Spectacular and yoga retreats. The new facilities will allow it to further drive the attraction of events in the popular Stanley area.

The additional works to be undertaken at Highfield include the restoration of the Cart Shed to be more historically accurate in appearance, creating a more appealing visual aesthetic on arrival and improving the shed's internal space, and improved visitor amenities.

Tenders are now being called to undertake the works all within the footprint of a previous which was demolished in the 1980s.

In 2016, a commercial kitchen was added to the south-west side of the barn, designed for catering during functions. The completion of the new amenities will provide all the required function facilities in the one space, ensuring the barn is a user-friendly function venue.

Works are planned to commence as soon as possible following the tender process.

Submissions close at 2:00pm on Wednesday 1 May 2019. Tender documents are available at https://www.tenders.tas.gov.au/.
