Increased Local Laws Patrols On Chapel Street

Our Local Laws officers have recently increased patrols on Chapel Street in response to community concerns about safety in the area.

With six officers on rotation, our friendly team will now be out and about in pairs doing three patrols a week at different times to maintain broad coverage. It's all about maintaining a friendly and visible presence to support the wider efforts of the Chapel Street Precinct Improvement Plan.

What do these patrols involve?

Our Local Laws officers have a varied role, with many different responsibilities.

During the patrols they'll:

  • monitor and discourage antisocial behaviour, including public drinking

  • provide outreach and support to vulnerable individuals within the precinct

  • patrol identified hotspot areas, particularly around 7-Eleven (Chapel & High Street)

  • monitor activity around licensed venues to ensure compliance

  • report and arrange clean-up of messy or unsightly public areas

  • engage with local residents and businesses to identify issues or concerns

  • attend community events and ensure public safety and order

  • identify and proactively respond to issues of non-compliance.

All this and more…because no day is ever the same and our Local Laws team is committed to helping however they can.

A joint approach with Police

Victoria Police are also joining the team when they can in a joint patrol initiative.

By taking a proactive and coordinated approach, we can respond faster and intervene more effectively to reduce antisocial behaviour and make area feel safer for everyone.
