Increased Safety Measures Planned For Transit Centre

Lismore City Council has resolved to act in response to ongoing vandalism, anti-social behaviour and community safety concerns at the Transit Centre.

Council endorsed an approach that would see the facility used to support a dedicated security presence for up to 12 months, helping improve safety, deter unlawful behaviour and support Council Rangers and Police in monitoring the area.

Mayor Steve Krieg said Council is taking practical steps to restore order and improve community confidence at the site.

"We all know how challenging the Transit Centre has become, with ongoing vandalism and anti-social behaviour creating ongoing issues for both Council and the community," he said.

"This arrangement is about acting to improve safety, increase visibility at the site and help deter unlawful behaviour while Council works through a longer-term solution."

Council has delegated authority to the General Manager to investigate and negotiate the lease or licence arrangements to support the security presence at the site.

The Transit Centre will remain closed until an appropriate activation model is in place to support the long-term safety and usability of the facility.
