The Energy Transformation Taskforce will host a stakeholder workshop today on the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Roadmap - an action-oriented plan to support high levels of residential solar and battery systems in our State's main electricity grid in the South-West.
The Roadmap will identify the policy, regulatory, customer protection and technical requirements for a high DER future, while ensuring the long-term supply of safe, secure and affordable electricity.
At the workshop, industry, Government, consumers and other interested stakeholders were invited to explore and define the main issues for consideration in the DER Roadmap.
This workshop follows an information session held on July 12, where around 100 participants provided valuable feedback on the scenarios, inputs and assumptions for the inaugural Whole of System Plan, another key initiative of the Energy Transformation Strategy.
The Whole of System Plan will present a 20-year outlook of how electricity supply and demand could evolve, under a range of scenarios, in the South West Interconnected System.
As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:
"The development of the DER Roadmap and the Whole of System Plan is progressing at a good pace and expected to be completed by December 2019 and mid-2020 respectively.
"I expect the outlook will guide future investment in electricity infrastructure and inform market and regulatory arrangements to ensure the reliable supply of electricity to households and businesses for years to come.
"The McGowan Government is committed to working with industry, Government and community stakeholders to deliver the Energy Transformation Strategy and achieve a brighter energy future for Western Australia."
