- Request for information open to identify opportunities for industrial growth, jobs
- Industry asked to help shape future of transmission manufacturing, servicing
- Builds on $75 million Made in WA investment to support transmission manufacturing
The Cook Government is inviting local manufacturers and industry stakeholders to contribute to the future of transmission manufacturing and servicing capability across the State.
The Department of Energy and Economic Diversification (DEED) is seeking feedback through a request for information (RFI) process on existing transmission manufacturing capability to help identify opportunities, gaps, and areas where targeted government support can strengthen local industry and jobs.
This initiative is part of the Cook Government's commitment to ensuring local businesses are well-positioned to contribute to the State's energy transition, support jobs and industrial growth, and compete nationally and internationally.
The industry engagement follows the release of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS)Transmission Plan, a blueprint for new and upgraded transmission infrastructure to support Western Australia's clean energy transition and ensure it becomes a renewable energy powerhouse.
Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson will also issue Directions to Western Power, Synergy, and Horizon Power under the Government Trading Enterprises Act 2023 that will drive local content procurement to create quality jobs and business opportunities.
As well as the SWIS Plan, energy transition initiatives in the Pilbara and private clean energy projects are creating significant opportunities for WA businesses to pivot existing capabilities or develop new products and services to support transmission delivery.
As part of the Made in WA Plan, the State Government has committed $75 million to growing local transmission manufacturing supply chains, including in Picton and Forrestfield.
This investment complements more than $1.6 billion already committed to upgrading Western Power's transmission network, including the delivery of the Clean Energy Link - North project.
Industry representatives, businesses and organisations currently involved in, or interested in entering, transmission manufacturing supply chains are encouraged to submit their insights via DEED's request for information form, available on the Citizen Space Consultation Hub.

As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation and Manufacturing Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"Western Australia is undergoing a once-in-a generation transformation of its energy system, and building local capability in transmission manufacturing is critical to making that transition a success.
"We want to make sure WA businesses are in the best possible position to secure work from this growing pipeline of projects, creating local jobs, strengthening and diversifying our industrial base and ensuring the State captures maximum benefits from the energy transition.
"This RFI allows us to enhance our understanding of the State's existing capabilities and structure our support to grasp the opportunities and position WA as a leader in transmission manufacturing to support the clean energy transition."
