Are you considering running as a candidate in the 2020 local government elections in Yarra?

Victorian local government elections will take place on Saturday 24 October 2020.

Yarra City Council, in partnership with the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA), is offering free workshops for election candidates and anyone who may be considering standing for election this year.

The workshops will include important information on:

  • Roles and responsibilities of Councillors and Councils
  • Current issues facing local government
  • Candidate information for the 2020 elections
  • Campaign tips and tools

The sessions will be run by expert presenters from the VLGA. Due to current State Government regulations limiting numbers attending meetings, the first workshop will be conducted virtually via Zoom.

The workshops are interactive and after the formal presentation, potential candidates are encouraged to raise questions. The VLGA will forward a Campaign Tool Kit to each attendee following the workshop.

Workshop details

The first workshop is scheduled for Thursday 18 June from 6.00pm to 830pm.

If you would like to attend, please register with the VLGA.

A second workshop will be conducted in early August (date to be confirmed).

Candidate Training Sessions

The VLGA and Yarra City Council will also be conducting the newly legislated Candidate Training Sessions.

The dates for the second Candidate Information Workshop and the Candidate Training Sessions will be posted as soon as they are confirmed.
