Construction on the new Lyric Theatre and Light Rail Stage 2A is progressing with changes to the way people move around our city centre.
New Lyric Theatre
From Tuesday, 14 October, the Theatre Lane car park will close for site establishment and early works for the new Lyric Theatre.
Works are needed to prepare for construction, and include fencing the site, setting up work sheds, service relocations and work to enable The Playhouse to stay open during construction.
The car park will remain closed until 2028 for the duration of main construction works, pending approvals.
Light Rail to Commonwealth Park
Critical work is continuing to prepare underground utilities for light rail and to improve the stormwater drainage system in the city.
To allow these works, from 8pm Friday 17 October to 6am Monday 20 October, Northbourne Avenue will be closed southbound between Cooyong Street and Vernon Circle.
Detours will be in place with signage to guide motorist and on-road cyclists.
Travelling to the city
We are mindful as we make the necessary changes in the city to build these projects to enhance the city centre, it will mean new ways to travel to and through the city.
With changes to the road network, car parking and other transport, it's best to plan your journey in advance and check travel times.
There are more than 5,000 parking spaces available across the city and surrounding areas.
This includes the newly opened Nangari Street car park.
Changes to light rail site compounds will allow more than 200 car spaces to be reopened at the City Hill car park. This compound will be moved to the Acton Waterfront.
