Infrastructure spending a smokescreen for Treasurer's incompetence

Tasmanian Labor
  • Treasurer fails to name one new infrastructure project in the budget
  • Hodgman Liberal Government lying to Tasmanians
  • Incompetent budget mismanagement places Tasmania into massive debt
  • Treasurer Peter Gutwein can't name one new infrastructure project in the budget that justifies Tasmania going into massive net debt.

Shadow Minister for Roads and Transport, David O'Byrne, said the Treasurer was using the infrastructure budget spending as a smokescreen for his own incompetence.

"The Treasurer is blatantly lying when he claims the state is going into debt to fund infrastructure," Mr O'Byrne said.

"In reality, the infrastructure budget has no new initiatives yet debt levels will balloon to $1.1 billion.

"There have been delays in the delivery of a host of promised infrastructure projects which have been carried over into this budget.

"The fact that the Infrastructure Minister didn't take one question from his colleagues today about his big infrastructure plans shows just how embarrassed the Hodgman Liberal Government is about this devious budget.

"No matter how you spin it, the real story is the Treasurer has placed Tasmania into massive debt as a result of incompetent budget mismanagement."
