InfraTracker 2.0 is endorsed by G20 to Support Transformative Infrastructure Investment post-Covid

At the 4th G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting in Washington DC on 12-13 October 2022, G20 FMCBGs endorsed the InfraTracker 2.0 Tool. During the meeting, chair Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stressed that the InfraTracker 2.0 will enable both the public and private sector transformation towards infrastructure investment post COVID-19 by providing insight into long-term infrastructure strategy and plan.

During the Italian 2021 G20 Presidency, GI Hub delivered the digital data tool InfraTracker ('InfraTracker 1.0'). This tool tracked the amount of infrastructure as stimulus announced by G20 governments in response to COVID-19.

In line with the delivery and results of InfraTracker, G20 members expressed a strong desire to continue the work and refine and expand the scope and capabilities of the tool. There are two results for extended coverage:

  1. InfraTracker (Central government investment in infrastructure): annual estimates of public investment - including maintenance and upgrades - in infrastructure from G20 member and guest economies' central governments, and their alignment with transformative outcomes.
  2. Infrastructure Transition Pathways: longer-term infrastructure investment data related to transition goals, the global climate targets and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ('transition pathways'), derived from plans and strategies from G20 member and guest economies' central governments.

Similar to last year's work, InfraTracker 2.0 is not intended to provide statistical estimates of total spending, but rather to incorporate the latest investment announcements from the central government to provide a real-time view of how the central government is responding to current market conditions. and post-COVID economic recovery. It also depicts how transformative infrastructure investment is being used to address other national-level challenges, such as climate change and social inequality.

The GI Hub also delivered an InfraTracker 2.0 digital tool that provides access to data and insights that address the problem statement above. The tool will be available for use by officials from G20 member and guest economies. The G20 appreciates the GI Hub for its support in developing the tool, which will support the G20 and other relevant stakeholders to close the data gap in the infrastructure sector and address the lack of consolidated publicly available data on public investment infrastructure.
