Sydney Portugal Community Club in Marrickville is set to become the latest festival destination in the Inner West following the approval by Inner West Council to allow large-scale outdoor events to be held at the club.

The approval means the club can now host five large-scale events with up to 5,000 patrons and ten smaller events with up to 3,500 patrons every year. These events can include an outdoor stage and a variety of pop-up food and bar stalls

The club is ideally located close to public transport, including the new Metro stations, ensuring great accessibility to the site.

Inner West Mayor, Darcy Byrne said; "This approval means the Sydney Portugal Club will become the latest festival venue in the Inner West, attracting people from all over Sydney for cultural events and live entertainment.

"We're determined to keep building the Inner West as the heart and soul of Sydney's live music and entertainment scene. Now, the Portugal Community Club will be an exciting part of that future.

"This Club is a treasured institution in Marrickville that celebrates the richness of Portuguese culture, food and sport. With this approval they can now share that with a much wider audience and continue to make Marrickville one of Australia's most diverse and vibrant suburbs."

Sydney Portugal Community Club Director, Paul Goncalves said; "We want to support live music and performances and contribute to Marrickville's unique and diverse community. This approval by Inner West Council means we can now hold some great events that will become high points of Marrickville's vibrant cultural life for years to come.

"We have a great relationship with Council and Mayor Byrne and thank them for their ongoing support of our club, our community and Inner West artists and venues."
