Inner West BBQ for Voice to Parliament

Inner West Council

Inner West Council is inviting our whole local community to a BBQ to learn more about the upcoming referendum on constitutional recognition of Indigenous people and the Voice to Parliament.

The BBQ for the Voice to Parliament to be held at Petersham Park on 18 February will include a free sausage sizzle, free public access to the Council pool as well as addresses from Indigenous leaders.

Advocates for the Voice to Parliament will be on hand to answer questions that community members have.

This is the latest step in the Council's civic education program aiming to build awareness in the community about the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the referendum process, and the proposed amendment to the Constitution.

"More than 500 local citizens have already undertaken a three-hour training workshop, arranged by Council, on the Uluru Statement with another 700 people registered to complete the training in coming months.

"We are inviting our whole community to come along to this BBQ to find out more about the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the historic vote that will take place later this year."

"The sausage sizzle and swim in the pool will be free for the public, who will be able to learn more about why this referendum is so important for the future of our nation.

"While some politicians are seeking to confuse Australians about how the Voice to Parliament would work, we are redoubling our efforts to inform and educate our community about it."

"We are asking local church congregations, sporting clubs and community organisations to bring their members along to the BBQ to hear from Indigenous leaders how this referendum can deliver real reconciliation for our society.

"Our civic education program has proven incredibly popular. We set a goal of training 1000 citizens which we will achieve within a matter of weeks.

"Now it's time invite the wider community into the conversation."
