This week Resources Victoria approved the state's first exploration decline, opening a new chapter of minerals exploration in the state.
The underground exploration tunnel will allow Catalyst Metals to determine the economic viability of a future mining project at the site.
This exploration approach will deliver more accurate, less costly geotechnical and exploration data with reduced surface impacts when compared to a conventional surface drilling program.
This approval does not permit mining and any future mining activities will require a mining licence.
The Boyd's Dam Project is located west of Mitiamo in northern Victoria about 65 km north of Bendigo.
