The Standing Committee on Public Administration has launched an inquiry into Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Visiting Justices in Western Australia, commencing 2 December 2025.

The Standing Committee on Public Administration has launched an inquiry into Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Visiting Justices in Western Australia, commencing 2 December 2025.

The inquiry invites written submissions addressing key issues including appointments, training requirements, scope of powers, oversight, age limits and availability of JPs.

JPs, witnessing centres and community stakeholders are being encouraged to contribute their experience and perspectives to help strengthen the JP framework.

A broad cross section of the community is invited to participate via the Committee's online submission portal. All submissions remain confidential until formally released by the Committee, in line with parliamentary inquiry protocols. Contributors may request confidentiality for all or part of their submission, with reasons supplied at lodgement.

The Committee may hold hearings at a later stage, and individuals can indicate their interest in appearing when lodging their submission online. Submissions close 13 February 2026.

Insights from the inquiry will support ongoing improvements to the effectiveness, capability and sustainability of the vital work carried out by JP services across Western Australia.
