The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer with a new intensive early intervention program for Far North Queensland, to help restore safety where you live.

'The MaraWay' will deliver the Regional Reset program and provide up to 12-months of intensive support for at-risk youth showing early signs of disengagement, antisocial or criminal behaviour to help make Queensland safer.

Participants will take part in an intensive one to three week "reset" at a 38-hectare property in the Tablelands, where they will contribute to the running of the farm and receive 24/7 support and supervision

During their 'reset', youths will participate in activities to develop their emotional, social, and physical wellbeing including cultural mentoring, agricultural and animal care lessons, education, life and employment skills workshops, and personal development challenges.

The program also includes family therapy sessions, mentorship, counselling and at-home support to help re-engage youth with their community and divert them from crime.

The Crisafulli Government's $50 million Regional Reset program is being delivered in nine locations across the State and is one of several new early intervention programs restoring safety where you live.

During their decade of decline Labor failed to invest in early intervention and created a youth crime crisis and a generation of serious repeat offenders.

The Crisafulli Government is making Queensland safer with stronger laws, more police, early intervention and rehabilitation.

Minister for Youth Justice and Victim Support Laura Gerber said early intervention was critical to stopping crime and driving down the number of victims.

"This program is designed to give at-risk youth an opportunity to hit the reset button and be put into a positive, disciplined environment that gives them the tools they need to make better choices," Minister Gerber said.

"While our strong laws are taking dangerous youth criminals off our streets, we are also turning young lives away from crime with early intervention, to prevent the next generation of youth offenders."

Member for Barron River Bree James said early intervention was an important tool to restore safety to Far North Queensland.

"We're intervening early to give young people the opportunity to make better choices and steer them towards education, vocation or a job, rather than a path that leads to crime," Mrs James said.

Member for Cook David Kempton said the Regional Reset program was a positive response to deterring young people from criminal activity in our region.

"Early intervention is a critical component in the Crisafulli Government's initiative to reduce victims of crime as it can change the direction of young people's lives before they become hardened criminals," Mr Kempton said.

Member for Mulgrave Terry James said the program would help turn the tide on Labor's Youth Crime Crisis.

"I've seen our community suffer thanks to Labor's weak youth justice laws and this program will be crucial to tackling youth crime before it begins and restoring safety to Far North Queensland," he said.

The MaraWay CEO Dr Crystal Williams said the program aimed to guide youths to positive futures through early intervention.

"This is about giving them a place to reset, rebuild and step into a future defined by strength and possibility," she said.

"Young people get chance to reset behaviors, as well as a chance to reimagine themselves, as proud, capable, and seen.

"Regional Reset gives kids a chance to rise above the labels and step into real opportunity."
