Interim Commissioner for Children, Youth Appointed

Roslyn Cornish has been appointed as the new Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People.

Minister for Children and Youth, Jo Palmer, congratulated Ms Cornish, who was appointed following the conclusion of Isabelle Crompton's tenure in the role.

"Ms Cornish is a highly respected educational leader and advocate, with more than 40 years' experience in the early childhood education sector. Her work has had significant impact at both state and national levels," Minister Palmer said.

"I look forward to working closely with Ms Cornish to continue advancing the best interests of our children and young people and I welcome her to the role.

"I would also like to thank Ms Crompton for her strong advocacy and valuable contribution during her time as Acting and Interim Commissioner, and acknowledge her work in the Office of the Commissioner for Children and Young People since 2011, initially in a policy role and then as Director.

"Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians by ensuring strong, independent oversight that protects the rights, wellbeing and voices of our children and young people."

The current Disability Commissioner, Catherine Whitington, undertook the functions of the Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People (in conjunction with her own functions) until the new Interim Commissioner was appointed.

Ms Cornish will serve as Interim Commissioner for the period of 13 April 2026 to 7 July 2026 or until the process to appoint a new Commissioner under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 2025 is finalised.
