Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water
The Minister for the Environment and Water has delivered the Annual Statement to Parliament on Australia's International Environment Leadership.
The statement recognises the importance of a healthy environment to Australia's wellbeing. It highlights the work we are doing at home and across our region to protect nature.
Together, we can achieve:
- a sustainable planet
- peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
Australia is working closely with our partners to address shared environmental challenges.
We are also leading the way in:
- sustainable ocean management-as a national and global priority
- halting biodiversity loss-with a target to protect at least 30% of land and ocean by 2030
- reducing plastic pollution-including the removal of ghost nets from coastal waters
- elevating First Nations leadership-through Indigenous Protected Areas and ranger programs.
Through these efforts, Australia is doing its part to tackle the triple planetary crisis. These are climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. They are global environmental problems that call for global solutions.
We will continue to work with our partners to:
- protect more of what's thriving
- restore more of what's damaged.
