International Women's Day Morning Tea To Celebrate Local Women And Leadership

Ararat Rural City Council is inviting community members to come together for a special 2026 International Women's Day Morning Tea celebrating the achievements, leadership and contributions of women across the municipality.

The free event will be held on Wednesday 11 March 2026 at the Ararat RSL function room from 10.30 am, with registrations essential to assist with planning. Community members are encouraged to gather friends, colleagues or community group members and book early, as tickets are limited.

The morning tea will be guided by Deputy Mayor, Cr Teli Kaur, as MC, bringing her warm, community-focused approach and deep connection to local families, new arrivals and community groups.

Attendees will hear from Rowena Murray, President and Founder of the Ararat Women's Shed, who will share stories from her work in the media amplifying women's voices, and reflect on the role of community spaces in helping women connect, learn and build confidence. Rowena's background in radio and communications has seen her bring regional women's stories to audiences across Victoria, highlighting leadership, resilience and everyday acts of courage.

Additional speakers are expected to be announced in the lead up to the event.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the morning tea was an opportunity for the community to recognise the impact of local women in many different roles, and to connect with others in a welcoming setting. "International Women's Day is a chance for us to say thank you to the women who lead in our homes, workplaces, clubs and community organisations, often without seeking recognition," Cr Sanders said. "By coming together to listen, learn and share stories, we can support the next generation of local women leaders and make sure everyone in Ararat Rural City has the chance to participate and belong."

"Events like this are also about connection and care," Cr Sanders said. "Whether you are attending with friends, workmates, your community group or on your own, you will be warmly welcomed, and I encourage people from across the municipality to register and join us."
